Libba bray the diviners series5/29/2023 That doesn't tell you that I stuck a bead up my nose while watching TV when I was four and thought I'd have to go to the ER and have it cut out. I could tell you the facts–I lived in Texas for most of my life I live in New York City with my husband and six-year-old son now I have freckles and a lopsided smile I'm allergic to penicillin.īut that doesn't really give you much insight into me. I think what gets me feeling itchy is all that emphasis on the facts of a life, while all the juicy, relevant, human oddity stuff gets left on the cutting room floor. What is it about writing an author bio that gives me that deer-in-headlights feeling? It's not exactly like I'm going to say "I was born in Alabama…" and somebody's going to jump up and snarl, "Oh yeah? Prove it!" At least I hope not.

The Ninth Orphan by James Morcan5/29/2023 The murder investigation coincides with a deadly flu virus outbreak, resulting in the university being quarantined from the outside world. Scotland Yard detective Valerie Crowther is assigned to investigate the murder of a student at a university for the Deaf in London, England. When you can’t hear…death comes silently. The investigating authorities didn’t know if the killings were ‘inside jobs’ and for a time nearly everyone connected to Gallaudet was under suspicion. This novel was inspired by the murders of deaf students at Gallaudet University, one of the world’s most prestigious learning institutions for the deaf, between 1980 and the early 2000’s. Silent Fear is dedicated to the many millions of deaf people around the world. It’s available now under Amazon’s Pre-order program for auto-delivery to kindle users on October 31. Silent Fear is the latest novel by New Zealand father-and-son writing team Lance & James Morcan, authors of seven other published novels including THE NINTH ORPHAN, WHITE SPIRIT and INTO THE AMERICAS. My friends at Sterling Gate Books in New Zealand have sent me information on an upcoming book (publishing 10/31) that sounds really intriguing!

Girl on a Plane by Miriam Moss5/29/2023 Overall I thought the story was very interesting and a super quick read. Throughout the book we learn about her hardships during four days as hostage, such as the crazy heat in the desert, lack of food/water, Anna missing her family, bombs attached to the plane and her fear of the consequences if the British government doesn't agree to the terrorists' demands. The story starts with Anna, a fifteen-year-old girl traveling back to England by herself, when her plane is hijacked by Palestinian guerrillas. I was originally attracted to this book because of the beautiful cover, but reading the synopsis was what really got me intrigued - Girl on a Plane is a story about a plane hijacking in 1970, and all events are based in the real life experience the author had when she was a teenager. I'm sorry to have to inform you that we've been hijacked by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine'. "Suddenly the intercom crackles overhead: 'Ladies and gentlemen, this is Captain Gregory speaking.

Jeanette oranges are not the only fruit5/29/2023 The main problem this poses the contemporary critic is that the novel has always been seen by commentators as ineluctably ‘new’: novel, innovative, experimental, postmodern, as hybridizing forms, challenging boundaries and deconstructing discourses. The editors’ aim in this volume is to provide ‘new and original interpretations of texts which have established themselves as twentieth century classics’. Moreover, the literary scene was a very different place in 1985, so there must be a good case for reassessment of the text in 2014. Still, it was 29 years ago that Winterson’s debut novel was published, which is older than the average undergraduate student. Given that Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit is one of the more recently published texts discussed in this volume and having just published a book on Winter son’s works myself, it felt slightly odd being asked by the editors to ‘revisit’ it as a ‘classic’ text.

Kj charles subtle blood5/29/2023 Lots of lovely declarations, a wonderful mystery, Will reaching his bullsh*t limit and letting it be known HE HAS HAD ENOUGH, Kim interrogating people with intensity, MORE DECLARATIONS OF DEVOTION, the bad guys getting their comeuppance, and then a wonderful ending. This was a wonderful series that I highly recommend. If you're looking for a fun, emotional and humorous series to binge, I can't recommend The Will Darling Adventures enough" -The Book Corps "The perfect way to end this series. The romance between the two men shows that there are always new layers of love and understanding to uncovering one's partner - and that happy ever after can be a work in progress."- Maya Rodale, NPR "A triumphant ending to a delightful series. Every word, every twisting twist of the plot, every interaction between its characters, it has been magnificent."- Book Me Up! "A sexy, elegant and romantic murder mystery. "- Library Journal starred review "Subtle Blood is one of the best books that KJ Charles has ever written. Highly recommended, but readers should start with the first inthis compelling series, Slippery Creatures. "Charles fills the finalinstallment in her Will Darling Adventures trilogy with more daringexploits, in addition to the characteristic wit, sexiness, humor, andheart.

The queen of the tambourine5/28/2023 But Eliza's effort slides into temporary madness. There is no need for us to follow the intrepid trail again.'' Soon it becomes clear that Eliza's letters are attempts by one woman to keep another woman down and, by doing so, to justify her own listless life. Turkey, Afghanistan, Nepal, China-all this was done by Victorian women, Joan. Early on, Eliza writes: ``After all, any woman must be sick who can leave that wonderful house, those two energetic children, all Charles's money and dear, uncomplaining Charles himself. Eliza is an exceptionally unreliable narrator who begins a fervid letter-writing campaign to her neighbor, Joan, after Joan abandons her husband and children to go see the world. This splendidly engaging, quirky epistolary novel is told from the point of view of Eliza Peabody, a middle-aged woman living in present-day South London.
